The National Geological Museum is the first coordinated effort of the Greek state to promote the Geological Cultural Heritage of Greece. The Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration (H.S.G.M.E.) founded the Museum in 2021, in the place of the former Museum of Minerals and Rocks, which, after its radical reconfiguration, operates in a specially designed space in the Central Facilities of the Survey, which also has the overall custody and management of the Museum.
The Museum has areas with special digital equipment with innovative interactive applications and short film/animation projections, in order to acquaint the visitor with the science of geology and mineral resources.
At the same time, the public can take virtual reality tours with the use of VR glasses, in order to travel to important geosites of Greece, such as Meteora, Melissani Cave Lake, etc. and to "dive" into the depths of mines in Chalkidiki, Lavrio, Naxos, etc.
