The section refers to the most important marbles and decorative stones of Greece. The extraction and processing of marble and decorative stones occupies a special place in Greek art and architecture. Stone that "marbles", (i.e. shimmers) in the sunlight, started as the raw material from the wider area of the Cyclades, with the known works of the Cycladic civilization, of the 3rd millennium BC. Its special physical and mechanical characteristics established marble and decorative stones in general as the pre-eminent material for works of art, from ancient Greek architecture and sculpture to the sculptors of the last two centuries. Twelve rocks are exhibited, in addition to those that geological science characterizes as marble, which can be cut and polished, from various regions of the country and in a special, corner display case two samples of the famous Lychnite of Paros, where the visitor can distinguish the unique transparency of the material.
